GI luminal stricture dilatation

Gastrointestinal (GI) luminal stricture dilatation, also known as endoscopic dilation, is a medical procedure used to widen narrowed areas (strictures) within the gastrointestinal tract. Strictures can occur in various parts of the GI tract, such as the esophagus, stomach, small intestine, or colon, and they can be caused by various conditions, including inflammation, scarring, tumors, or congenital abnormalities.

The goal of GI luminal stricture dilatation is to alleviate symptoms and improve the passage of food, liquids, and waste through the affected area. The procedure is usually performed by a gastroenterologist and can be done as part of an endoscopy or colonoscopy.

Here’s an overview of the procedure:

Preparation: Before the procedure, the patient may receive sedation or anesthesia to help them relax and minimize discomfort during the procedure.

Endoscopy or Colonoscopy: The procedure begins with the insertion of an endoscope (for upper GI strictures) or a colonoscope (for lower GI strictures) through the mouth or anus, respectively.
